After being a nanny for seven years, and discovering how much I enjoyed working with newborn infants, I decided that the job of postpartum doula was the perfect fit for me. The time right after the birth of a baby is such an important and magical time in a family's life, and I feel priveleged to be a part of it. My goal is for Mom, Dad, and family to feel confident in caring for their new little one, and for it to be a peaceful transition for the new baby.
Some of my duties as a postpartum doula include teaching and helping with baby care, giving Mom and Dad a chance to rest, and helping to establish breastfeeding. Although a doula does not give medical advice, I can give advice on what is common (or not) in Mom and baby. Another part of postpartum doula care is letting Mom talk through feelings about the birth, baby, and her new role.

I began working as a postpartum doula in May, 2003, after completing a training through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA), which led to my certification and includes infant CPR certification. I have worked with families of twins and premature babies, and also with teenage moms. The birth of my son in April, 2006, gave me a new perspective on new motherhood, and has added to my knowledge of that time for Mom, as well as breastfeeding, cloth diapering, and some attachment parenting principles, such as cosleeping and babywearing.

I hope that you will find my love and knowledge of newborns helpful in this new journey you are setting out on.
